Schützt Vitamin D vor COVID-19? Eine beschreibende Übersicht

Zusammenfassung

Die vielfältigen Wirkungen von Vitamin D (bzw. Calcitriol) auf das Immunsystem und auf die Lunge lassen eine präventive und therapeutische Wirkung auf COVID-19 plausibel erscheinen. Epidemiologische Studien legen nahe, dass Vitamin-D-Mangel ein Risikofaktor für COVID-19 sein könnte, wobei eine Kausalität daraus noch nicht abgeleitet werden kann. Reverse Kausalität oder andere zugrunde liegende gemeinsame Ursachen (Alter, Adipositas) können einen Zusammenhang erklären.
Kontrollierte prospektive Studien haben für die Vitamin-D-Supplementation und -Therapie teilweise klinisch bedeutsame Effekte zur Infektionsprophylaxe und zur Abmilderung der Krankheitsverläufe gezeigt, jedoch konnte dies nicht durch alle Studien bestätigt werden. Fragen zur Auswahl von Risikogruppen und zum besten Dosierungsregime bleiben noch offen.
