Chronische Schmerzen betreffen etwa 30 bis 50 % der Bevölkerung in England [1], 11 bis 40 % in den USA [2] und 19 % in Europa und Israel [3]. In Österreich wurde eine Prävalenz von chronischem Schmerz bei 25 % der Bevölkerung erhoben [4]. Chronischer Schmerz führt auch zu erhöhten Gesundheitskosten, in Österreich wurden die mittleren jährlichen Gesamtkosten für Gesundheit mit etwa € 10.000 berichtet [5]. Damit sind chronische Schmerzen als häufig einzustufen und somit ein wichtiges Anliegen für medizinische und gesundheitspolitische Aktivitäten. …
