Contribution of PET-CT in the management of gastrointestinal cancer
In general, PET-CT has emerged as an innovative imaging method entering clinical routine within the last few years. Several studies report on the efficacy in clinical decision especially in gastrointestinal tumours. Cancer therapies are changing, gradually moving away from the administration of standardized towards individualized therapeutic approaches. To facilitate this shift PET-CT contributes largely to identify the appropriate regime to each patient. This article summarizes the application of PET-CT in selected tumours of the gastrointestinal tract and the gain of clinically relevant information.
