Invasive Meningokokkenerkrankungen (IME) werden von gramnegativen Bakterien der Art Neisseria meningitidis verursacht. Serologisch werden heute 12 Gruppen beschrieben: A, B, C, E29, H, I, K, L, W135, X, Y, Z. Für Meningokokkenepidemien sind fast ausschließlich die Serogruppen A, B, C, Y und W135 verantwortlich. IME sind trotz ihrer Seltenheit weltweit bedeutende Auslöser bakterieller Meningitiden und Septikämien. N. meningitidis wird durch Tröpfcheninfektion und direkten Kontakt von Mensch zu Mensch übertragen. Bei 5–25 % der Gesamtbevölkerung [1, 2] und bei bis zu 34,5 % der Jugendlichen [3] findet eine symptomlose Besiedlung der Schleimhäute des Nasopharyngialraums statt. Die Kolonisierung mit dem Bakterium induziert bakterizide Antikörper, die sowohl vor einer erneuten Besiedlung als auch vor einer IME mit dem gleichen genetischen Feintyp schützen können [1]. …
