Abstract

Objective: Providing an overview about the discussion and current practice of Self-management support for people with mental disorders.

Methods: Mainly database supported literature review, criteria-based analyses and summarized publication.

Results: Internationally Self-management support for the chronically ill is disseminating widely, recently even for people with mental disorders or comorbidities. There is some evidence that this intervention can improve psychiatric symptoms, quality of life and opportunities for participation.

Conclusions: As a promising, patient-centred intervention which is compatible with the idea of recovery, Self-management support deserves closer attention.
