Abstract

Sports and physical activity are effective measures of health promotion. However, their role for cancer patients was underestimated in the past. Numerous studies have shown that regular physical activity not only improves the physical status of cancer patients but also reduces side effects of therapy (particularly fatigue) and increases quality of life. This article describes the rationale for prescribing physical activity for cancer patients, explains guidelines for organizing training programs, and lists the indications and contraindications to exercise for this group of patients.
