Abstract

Depressed skull fractures are seen in about 5% of children admitted to hospital with head injury. The clinical signs, imaging techniques, and therapy for depressed skull fractures in children are reviewed, exemplified by the case of a 1.5-year-old child with a ping-pong-ball fracture. Surgical and non-surgical treatment is assessed; treatment recommendations vary depending on the severity of the fracture and accompanying injuries. The literature on the different therapeutic options is reviewed, and the options are discussed.
