Borrelial Lymphocytoma

  • Chapter
Aspects of Lyme Borreliosis

Abstract

Lymphocytoma as a diagnostic term has been used since 1923 to designate cutaneous proliferations of lymphoid cells without detectable extracutaneous involvement; it was first used by Biberstein following a suggestion of Kaufmann-Wolf. Burckhardt (1911) and Kaufmann-Wolf (1921) reported on several cases of what was then categorized as hyperplasia of cutaneous lymphoid tissue. Lymphocytoma and lymphadenosis benigna cutis (LABC), often used synonymously, belong to the group of pseudolymphomas, which are lymphoreticular disorders with a benign course (Burg and Braun-Falco 1983).
