Intraoperative Irradiation

Abstract

The treatment of extremity soft tissue sarcomas has evolved from amputation or radical compartmental resections to limb-salvage therapy utilizing a combination of wide local excision and radiation therapy. Results from a randomized study done by the National Cancer Institute and multiple retrospective reviews have revealed no significant survival advantage with the more radical surgical procedure (1–4).
