Deutsche Frontkrankenschwestern im II. Weltkrieg
Traumatische Erfahrungen, patho- und salutogenetische Entwicklungen
Abstract
Summary: The aim of this study was to interview former German nurses about their recollection of traumatic life experiences - especially during World War II service - and to screen for current symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD; PCL-C), comorbid symptoms (SCL-90-R) and emotional-cognitive coping strategies (alexithymia, TAS-20; sense of coherence, SOC-13) as well as stress-related growth (PRB). 59 women participated in the study, on average they were 82 years old. The sample is characterized by a higher level of education, a good health status and high levels of salutogenetic attitudes and stress-related growth. All the women reported on traumatic experiences during their war service which on average was 3 years. 5 % met the criteria for posttraumatic stress disorder and a further 19 % for partial PTSD. Compared to less disturbed participants the women with (full or partial) PTSD suffered significantly more often from comorbid symptoms and showed a higher level of alexithymia and a lower sense of coherence. No group differences prevailed with respect to stress related growth.
