Abstract

In this chapter, we discuss the anterior segment and the posterior segment tumors and tumors of the optic nerve and optic disc tumors which have an intraocular presentation. We have stratified the tumors as benign, intermediate and malignant tumors based on their clinical behavior for easy understanding. Each tumor component is subdivided into several sections such as; clinical notes, histopathology, differential diagnosis and immunohistochemistry wherever possible. We have also included the recent information on immunohistochemistry and molecular techniques which are critical for the diagnosis and confirmation of the intraocular tumors. We also discussed some newer entities such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), induced smooth muscle tumor which occurs in immunosuppressive patients in the iris tissue. We have discussed the recent updates on intraocular tumors like retinoblastoma and uveal melanoma. The chapter also covers the certain other rare intraocular tumors such as peripheral neuroectodermal tumor/Ewing’s sarcoma and extra renal rhabdoid tumors which are very rare thereby making it important for the ophthalmic pathologist to be aware of the histopathology and differential diagnosis.
