Innovation in Esophageal Surgery

Abstract

Radiofrequency ablation, with the HALO ablation technology, is a very specific type of ablation, in which the energy is released in a precise and highly controlled manner, to treat Barrett’s esophagus.

It’s safety and high efficacy rate have been shown in more than 70 peer-reviewed publications.

Recently the HALO system has also shown to accrue a considerable cost-saving benefit and a higher quality of life, compared to endoscopic surveillance, in all Barrett’s stages and to surgical intervention in high grade dysplasia patients.

Currently there are still several topics to investigate, as the optimal management strategy of patients once ablated and new data will be available in the near future.
