Abstract
Tumors in the CS may occur in children, are most frequent in the middle-aged, but still occur quite frequently in the older-age group. Female patients outnumber male patients by 2:1. Over 90% of tumors occurring in, or invading the CS are benign meningiomas. Intracavernous tumors in children are, in most cases, neurinomas of nerve V. Many other benign tumors may affect the CS, among which the most frequent are rather invasive but benign tumors of the pituitary gland. Malignant tumors of the CS include sarcomas and carcinomas from the surrounding areas, as well as other malignant tumors. Even metastases can be found in the CS.
