Dieses Kapitel gibt einen kurzen Überblick über die Verteilung glutamaterger Nervenzellen und deren wichtigste Funktionen. Als Angriffspunkte für Arzneimittel oder Gifte stehen insbesondere postsynaptische Rezeptoren für Glutamat, vor allem NMDA-Rezeptoren, zur Verfügung.
