Menschliche Emotionen und Gefühle sind nicht nur seit Platon und Aristoteles Gegenstand der Philosophie, sondern auch jüngerer wissenschaftlicher Disziplinen wie der Anthropologie, Verhaltensbiologie, Ethnologie, Medizin, Soziologie und neueren geisteswissenschaftlichen Disziplinen wie den Kommunikations- und Medienwissenschaften. Es soll in diesem Text nicht versucht werden, diese umfangreichen Denk- und Forschungstraditionen nachzuzeichnen.
