Zusammenfassung

Während auf vielen Gebieten der augenärztlichen Therapie in den letzten 100 Jahren bedeutende Fortschritte erzielt wurden, verfügen wir für die Keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) bis heute noch über keine voll befriedigende Behandlungsmethode. So gilt auch heute noch was August Gottlieb Richter 1790 in seinen Anfangsgründen der Wundarzneikunst schreibt: „Chronische Augenentzündungen sind nicht mit einer so hohen Gefahr des Verlustes der Augen verbunden, aber mehrenteils schwerer zu heilen als hitzige, weil ihre Ursachen mehrenteils sehr verwickelt, eingewurzelt und schwer zu entdecken sind“. Unter diese chronischen Bindehautentzündungen ist auch die KCS einzuordnen, der Katharrhus siccus, wie ihn Peters 1891 genannt hat.
