Zusammenfassung
Die perioperative Antibiotikaprophylaxe wird bereits seit langem in allen operativen Fächern kontrovers diskutiert. Die Gründe hierfür sind vielfältig und hängen mit dem Fehlen prospektiver randomisierter Studien, geringen Fallzahlen, der Verwechslung der Begriffe Bakteriurie und Infektion, mangelnder Unterscheidung der einzelnen Arbeiten zwischen Prophylaxe und Therapie als auch mit Wissensdefiziten der behandelnden Ärzte hinsichtlich Pharmakokinetik und Pharmakodynamik der Antibiotika sowie der Pathogenitätseigenschaften der verschiedenen Bakterien und Unterschätzung des infektiösen Hospitalismus zusammen.
