Zusammenfassung
Psychische Erkrankungen erfordern gerade bei alten Patienten eine adäquate psychiatrisch-psychotherapeutische Behandlung. Hierbei konkurrieren psychotherapeutische und psychopharmakologische Ansätze nicht miteinander. Sie ergänzen sich. Bei alten Patienten mit affektiven, schizophrenen oder demenziellen Symptomen tragen Psychopharmaka dazu bei, einen Zugang zu den Patienten zu finden, ihre Gesprächs- und Handlungsfähigkeit in einem Maß wiederherzustellen, das überhaupt erst eine gezielte psychotherapeutische Behandlung ermöglicht. Fast ohne Ausnahme können Antidepressiva, Neuroleptika und Antidementiva bei geeigneter Indikationsstellung den psychotherapeutischen Prozess unterstützen. Der Behandlungserfolg wird gesteigert durch die Integration von Psychopharmakotherapie und Psychotherapie in einen Behandlungsplan, der von Patient und Psychiater/Psychotherapeut mit positiver Grundeinstellung akzeptiert wird.
