Zusammenfassung
Palliativmedizinische Kompetenz ist zwar besonders in weit fortgeschrittenen, grundsätzlich aber in allen Phasen einer inkurablen Tumorerkrankung gefordert ist. Sie bezieht die Optionen der Symptomkontrolle durch tumorspezifische und kausale Therapien explizit ein. Da diese jedoch Gegenstand der übrigen Kapitel dieses Buches sind, werden an dieser Stelle nur die rein symptomorientierten Maßnahmen zur Palliation der häufigsten Symptome beschrieben. Die Betreuung des unheilbar Kranken und sterbenden Patienten und seiner Angehörigen ist im zweiten Teil des Kapitels dargestellt.
