Zusammenfassung
Pflanzliche Arzneimittel finden in zwei urologischen Indikationsbereichen verbreitet Anwendung, namlich bei entzundlichen Erkrankungen der Harnwege und bei benigner Prostatahyperplasie (BPH). Dem ersten Indikationsgebiet sind auch Behandlungen bei Nierengries und Steinleiden zuzuordnen. Seitens der Phytotherapie werden hier vor allem Nieren- und Blasentees angewendet, die mehrheitlich aus einer Vielzahl von Drogen in relativ heterogener Mischung zusammengesetzt sind. Demgegenuber werden zur Behandlung der BPH im wesentlichen nur drei Drogen (Sagepalmenfruchte, Brennesselwurzeln und Kurbiskerne) sowie β-Sitosterin pflanzlichen Ursprunges (Hypoxis rooperi) angewendet. In Deutschland erfolgt die konservative Behandlung der BPH uberwiegend mit Phytopharmaka (Schmitz, 1998).
