Zusammenfassung

Zur Herstellung von Kniegelenksprothesen werden unterschiedliche Materialien wie CoCrMo- und Titanlegierungen sowie ultrahochmolekulares Polyethylen mit und ohne Oberflächenvernetzung („cross-linking“) verwendet. Die Metallimplantate für die femoralen und tibialen Komponenten werden entweder mit einer Gusstechnik oder in einem Schmiedeverfahren hergestellt. Die formgepressten Polyethylenkomponenten werden als tibiale Gleitpartner oder als Patellarückflächenersatz verwendet (Dobbs u. Robertson 1982). Die Oberflächen der Metall- und Polyethylenkomponenten werden abschließend mittels spezieller Verfahren bearbeitet, was einen deutlichen Einfluss auf die Materialeigenschaften hat (Dauerfestigkeit, Abrieb, Alterung). Insbesondere beim Polyethylen hat die Gammasterilisation unter atmosphärischem Sauerstoff durch Diffusion des Sauerstoffs in die Oberfläche dazu geführt, dass deren Brüchigkeit erhöht wurde (Costa et al. 2002).
