Zusammenfassung
Der menschliche Organismus lebt in einer Umwelt, von der er existenziell abhängig ist: Zahlreiche Informationen, die der Organismus aus der Umgebung aufnimmt, beeinflussen seine endokrinen, metabolischen und reproduktiven Funktionen. Zu diesen Informationen gehören u. a. das Licht und die Dunkelheit (Tag-Nacht-Rhythmus), an die der Organismus mit seinem Schlaf-Wach-Rhythmus gebunden ist. Aus der bekannten Adaptation der Organfunktionen an den Tag-Nacht-Rhythmus lässt sich ableiten, dass viele dieser Funktionen auch jahreszeitlichen Schwankungen unterliegen, insbesondere in weit nördlichen und südlichen Regionen, in denen die Länge des Tages und der Nacht massiv variiert.
