Zusammenfassung
Erkrankungen der Schilddrüse sind außerordentlich häufig und kommen zudem bei Frauen mit einer 3-bis 5fach höheren Prävalenz vor. Die Bedeutung von Schilddrüsenerkrankungen für die Frauenheilkunde ergibt sich aber nicht nur aus dieser epidemiologisch eindeutigen, mechanistisch bisher weitgehend unverstandenen Geschlechterverteilung. Tatsächlich interagieren die Schilddrüse und das reproduktive System der Frau auf vielfältige Weise miteinander (◘ Abb. 15.1). Insbesondere haben Störungen der Schilddrüsenfunktion erheblichen Einfluss auf die reproduktiven Funktionen. Die eindeutig sowohl mit einer Hypoals auch mit einer Hyperthyreose assoziierte Subfertilität der Frau sei an dieser Stelle bereits beispielhaft genannt.
