Gestationsdiabetes (GDM) ist definiert als eine erstmals in der Schwangerschaft diagnostizierte Glukosetoleranz-Störung (ICD-10 German version: O24.4). Die Diagnosestellung ist nur mit einem gezielten Screening, das den Glukosetoleranz-Test einschließt, möglich, da der GDM keine Beschwerden verursacht. Leider ist ein Blutzucker-Testverfahren bislang kein verbindlicher Bestandteil der Mutterschaftsvorsorge in Deutschland geworden.
