Zusammenfassung
Während des größten Teils meines Berufslebens war es mein Privileg, Kinder aus multiethnischen Familien studieren und mit ihnen arbeiten zu können, Kinder, die in verschiedenen Gegenden der USA sowie auf verschiedenen Kontinenten in Entwicklungsländern aufwuchsen. Die Einsichten, die ich hieraus gewann, stammen von Großstadtkindern im Osten der USA, Einwandererfamilien und Flüchtlingen in Kalifornien sowie den Kindern von Kauai. Und nicht zuletzt von den Kindern aus Südost-Asien und Ost-Afrika, denen ich begegnete, während ich für die UNICEF arbeitete – Kindern, die arm an materiellen Gütern waren, aber erfindungsreichim Kampf ums Überleben. Sie alle lehrten mich, welchaußerordentliche Fähigkeiten Menschen entwickeln, die große Hindernisse zu bewältigen haben.
