Globalisierung als Galton-Problem: Regionale und temporale Diffusionsschübe

Als ich die Grundidee hatte, Globalisierung mit den klassischen Lösungen aus der Anthropologie, die für das Galton-Problem angewendet werden, zu behandeln und dies auf unserer Tagung im Jahr 2002 zum ersten Mal vorstellte, war eine solche Perspektive ungewöhnlich und innovativ. Bis dahin lagen weltweit keine vergleichbaren Analysen in der modernen Politikwissenschaft vor. Zwischenzeitlich konnte ich das Konzept in der international renommierten Fachzeitschrift International Organization (IO) vorgestellen. Dieser Aufsatz fand in der internationalen Politikwissenschaft große Resonanz (Braun/Gilardi 2006; Armingeon 2007; Quinn/Toyoda 2007; Franzese/Hays 2007; i.E.). Heute wird von vielen Methoden entwickelnden und anwendungsorientierten amerikanischen Kollegen die Berücksichtigung von Diffusionsprozessen anhand einer S-OLS Regression empfohlen (Franzese/Hays 2004 und in diesem Band; Simmons/Elkins 2004; Beck u.a. 2006). Eine Nichtbeachtung kann zu falschen Ergebnissen führen.

Dieser Beitrag entstand, als ich Fellow am Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg in Delmenhorst war. Die stimulierende Atmosphäre, die in dieser Einrichtung herrscht, hat sehr zum Gelingen dieses Beitrages beigetragen.
