Abstract

All stages of O. maritimus can be found feeding on different species of seabirds, mainly on chicks and immature birds, in their nests or in nearby crevices and under stones (Hoogstraal et al. in J Parasitol 62:799–810, 1976; Nuttall et al. in Arch Virol 79:35–44, 1984; Bosch and Figuerola in Ardea 87:83–89, 1999).
