Abstract
In this chapter I explore the potential impact of queer theory on the construction of sex, gender, and sexual orientation in the practice of couple and family therapy. Queer theory provides a framework for questioning and resisting binary systems to promote flexibility in individual and relational identities. I offer cisgenderism as a special topic, followed by a case example and implications of queer theory for the practice of family therapy.
