Part of the book series: Statistics for Biology and Health ((SBH))

Abstract

There are four major residuals of interest in the Cox model: the martingale, deviance, score, and Schoenfeld residuals, along with two others, the dfbeta and scaled Schoenfeld residuals, that are derived from these. This chapter gives an overview of the definitions and mathematical underpinnings of the residuals; later chapters take up their uses one by one in detail.
