Abstract
Extrinsic and/or intrinsic thermoregulation of the testis represents a controversial area in the regulation of spermatogenesis and fertility1. The application of scrotal hypothermia devices (improperly called testicular hypothermia devices) in clinical field2,3 and the introduction of simulation models of the counter-current heat exchange mechanism at the pampiniform plexus in an artificial domain, presented for the first time in Berlin (7th Int. Symposium of Operative Andrology, March 19, 1988)4,5, indicate practical and theoretical approaches to interfere with and to analyze testis thermoregulation, with the aim to ameliorate sperm and fertility parameters.
