Abstract
Advances in the second part of this century have provided relatively satisfactory basic understanding, clinical classification, and guidelines for the management of hyperuricemia and gout. However, gout remains a significant health problem in many populations and several clinical problems have emerged to challenge clinicians, such as the atypical features and increasing prevalence of gout in elderly men and women, and the frequently aggressive course of cyclosporine induced gout.
