Abstract
Glucose infusion causes increased excretion of uric acid1, 2, suggesting a functional relationship between the renal handling of uric acid and glucose. Furthermore, some functional association between the renal transport of uric acid, oxypurines and oxypurinol have been suggested3, 4. However, the effect of glucose infusion on the renal transport of oxypurines and oxypurinol, an allopurinol metabolite, has not yet been investigated, to our knowledge. Therefore, we examined the response of renal clearances of purine bases and oxypurinol to intravenous glucose infusion.
