Abstract

After reading this chapter, one has a clear overview of the history of the disorder in Europe, the prevalence of ADHD worldwide, the neurobiological underpinnings of ADHD, the difficulties using in adulthood DSM-IV criteria designed for children, similarities and differences of ADHD between both genders, the core symptoms and the resulting impairment, frequent patterns of comorbidity in ADHD, and information on morbidity, costs, and mortality.
