Abstract
In the paper in which Leo Kanner (1943) first described the 11 young patients he labeled autistic, he also discussed his observations about their parents. Kanner indicated that all of the parents were highly intelligent and well-educated. He also described these parents as sharing a number of personality characteristics, which he depicted in fairly negative terms.
