Abstract
TEACCH’s services for adults with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a natural extension of both the philosophy and methods that were originally developed for young children and their families (See Chapter 1, The Origins and History of the TEACCH Program). Starting in the late 1970’s, TEACCH Centers began systematically expanding services for adolescents and adults with ASD. In recognition the life long impact of ASD, in 1979 the North Carolina legislature expanded the funding of TEACCH to include services to these older individuals and their families.
