Zusammenfassung

Die Anorexia nervosa (AN) hat seit den frühen Kasuistiken von Richard Morton und den folgenden detaillierten Erstbeschreibungen in den Jahren 1873/74 durch den damals berühmten britischen Arzt Sir William Gull und den nicht weniger bekannten Franzosen Charles Laségue nichts von ihrer Faszination verloren. Allerdings waren sich bereits die beiden Erstbeschreiber uneinig in der Einschätzung des Verlaufs. Der Brite Gull schilderte den Verlauf für das Gros der Patienten eher optimistisch. Lasegue hingegen vertrat schon damals die Meinung, dass im Fall eines mehrere Wochen andauernden Krankheitsbildes der Verlauf häufig chronisch ende.
