Zusammenfassung
Das Kapitel beinhaltet v. a. eine pragmatische Darstellung der klinischen Durchführung der EKT und beginnt entsprechend mit der Beschreibung der Vorbereitung einer individuellen EKT. Die ausführlich dargestellte Anwendungsbeschreibung umfasst u. a. das Monitoring, die Elektrodenpositionierung, die Narkoseeinleitung, die eigentliche Stimulation und die Überwachung des Anfalls. Der Beurteilung des induzierten Anfalls ist ein eigener, ausführlicher und praxisnaher Abschnitt gewidmet. Die Kriterien für eine Restimulation sowie die reguläre Ausleitung werden erörtert. Akute Nebenwirkungen wie postiktale Unruhezustände werden unter differenzialdiagnostischen Aspekten und von Handlungsanleitungen begleitet dargestellt. Auch die Notfallindikationen einer EKT werden hier ausführlich und unter differenzialdiagnostischen Gesichtspunkten diskutiert.
