Abstract
Case management is a concept that has gained much credence and popularity in human services. Case management is viewed as a necessary component to the care of a variety of populations that are perceived as disabled and/or as having multiple service needs. These populations include the developmentally disabled, dependent children, the frail elderly, the homeless, and the severely mentally ill. Because of the diverse populations served, a broad array of models of practice, the diverse backgrounds and training of individuals providing this service, and multiple organizational approaches, there is no consistent definition or understanding of this term.
