Abstract
The surface scanning of the schizo-carps of Pimpinella anisum L. and of the adulterant species Conium maculatum L. shows quite different epicarp microcharacters, namely smooth and striated cells on the intercostal spaces, respectively.
The value of these microcharacters, recognizable even in powdered fruit samples, for a botanical identification of the two species in the powdered drug is discussed.
