Abstract

Five 2-acylindole alkaloids were isolated and identified from the leaves of Pterotaberna inconspicua Stapf., collected in Zaïre. The major alkaloids were methuenine and 16-epimethuenine. Vobasine, 6-oxomethuenine and methuenine N-oxide occurred in minor amounts. Only the latter alkaloid is apparently a new compound. The triterpenes α- and β-amyrine were also found to be heavily present in the leaves of this plant.
