Material and methods
A total of 723 charts of patients with OLP were retrospectively analyzed. All patients were evaluated by me in an outpatient dermatology office and were either referred by a health care provider or self referred. Only patients with histologic confirmation verified by either an oral pathologist or dermatopathologist were included in the study. Sixty-eight patients underwent an additional biopsy for direct immunofluorescence of perilesional mucosa to confirm the diagnosis. Patients with oral
Results
The range of patient follow-up was 6 months to 8 years (mean, 4.5 years). The mean age at presentation was 57 years for women and 47 years for men, with an overall age range of 13 to 82 years. Of the 723 patients, 544 (75%) were women and 179 (25%) were men. Table I summarizes the profile of study patients.

Discussion
The clinical features of patients in this survey share many similarities with those reported previously. For example, as noted by others4, 6, 7 and confirmed in this study, OLP was more prevalent in women, developed at an earlier age in men, lacked a familial pattern, developed most commonly on the buccal mucosa, and was most prevalent and symptomatic in its erosive form. Lichen planus in children is uncommon and was observed in 5 patients younger than 15 years, all with erythematous and
