2020, European Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Biology: XCitation Excerpt :A systematic review reported pooled prevalence of any UI to be 32-36% three months postpartum [2]. Reviews on epidural [3], episiotomy [4], cesarean section [2] and instrumental childbirth [5] have clarified their association with UI postpartum. There is inconsistency in the literature regarding remaining birth parameters.
Station of the fetal head at complete cervical dilation impacts duration of second stage of labor
2020, European Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Biology: XCitation Excerpt :Studies [1–3] have reported inconsistent results on the impact of epidural analgesia (EA) on duration of first stage of labor. However, most studies [1,2,4,5] agree that EA can increase duration of second stage. In 2003 the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) 6 defined prolonged second stage of labor as > 2 h without and > 3 h with EA in nulliparous women, and > 1 hour without and > 2 h with EA in parous women.
Women's perception of the onset of labour and epidural analgesia: A prospective study
2013, MidwiferyCitation Excerpt :On the one hand, one may criticise the quality of the randomised trials (Lieberman and O'Donoghue, 2000). On the other hand, as women receiving epidural analgesia display differing characteristics from those not receiving it, it may be that there is a type of woman with an increased risk of prolongation of labour and high rates of intervention and operative delivery (Bhattacharya et al., 2006; Ekéus et al., 2009; Leighton and Halpern, 2002; Le Ray et al., 2008). The induction of labour has been found to be associated with more frequent epidural analgesia (Humphrey and Tucker, 2009; Johnson et al., 2003; Nielsen et al., 2005; Ohel et al., 2006).
