Abstract
Broad segments of the population are using the internet for information about common health issues as well as for specific questions about mental health. The information gained through personal research influences health behavior and attitudes towards personal health. For this reason it is very important to ensure the quality of health websites. Many international studies identify lacks of evidence-based quality of health-information for patients on the internet. In contrast, corresponding investigation of the quality of internet-sourced information for german-speaking websites is lacking to a great extent. For this reason, the evidence-based quality of information of german-speaking websites for patients with posttraumatic stress disorder was investigated by content analysis of n = 20 Websites. The study investigated the provider, the quality and the usefulness of information, the actuality, transparency and kind of treatments. The findings show, that the different treatments (psychotherapy, psycho-drug therapy, self-help) are balanced presented, however information about psychodynamic therapies are under-represented compared with information about behavioral therapy. The evidence-based quality of information was moderate, especially because of the lacking user transparency. There is generally very few incorrect information as well as misinformation. Finally the models and practices for quality assurance are presented and discussed in regard to the related problems.
