Pediatric bronchial hyperresponsiveness and asthma phenotypes
2018, Annals of Allergy, Asthma and ImmunologyA rhinitis phenotype associated with increased development of bronchial hyperresponsiveness and asthma in children
2016, Annals of Allergy, Asthma and ImmunologyCitation Excerpt :To date, several studies sought to identify determinants of BHR in participants with AR exhibiting no clinical evidence of asthma.25,30,31 Although sensitization to specific allergens, such as D farinae, cat dander, and grass pollen, and the number of positive skin responses has been associated with an increased risk of BHR, the results were inconclusive.25,31 In the present study, we found that cluster 3, which had a high rate of atopy and impaired lung function, also had a significantly higher rate of sensitization to multiple allergens than the clusters with a lower rate of atopy or normal lung function (data not shown).
Bronchial hyperresponsiveness to methacholine and adenosine monophosphate and the degree of atopy in children with allergic rhinitis
2011, Annals of Allergy, Asthma and ImmunologyCitation Excerpt :A few studies have reported the relationship between BHR to methacholine and the degree of atopy in patients with allergic rhinitis. Mete et al14 showed that allergic rhinitis patients with a higher number of positive SPT responses, especially those with 5 or more, are more likely to have BHR to methacholine. Cuttita et al15 observed that BHR was significantly associated with higher total IgE levels in children with allergic rhinitis.
