2010, American Journal of OphthalmologyCitation Excerpt :The mean ECD in this study is thus likely to be close to the actual mean ECD in the Japanese population in Kumejima 40 years of age or older. In Western countries and India, the mean ECD in subjects over 40 years of age is approximately 2300 to 2600 cells/mm2,3,6,7,13–15 which is lower than the mean ECD in the present study. On the other hand, in East Asian countries, the mean ECD in subjects over 40 years of age is approximately 2700 to 3200 cells/mm2.4,9,10,14,17,21
Corneal Endothelial Morphologic Features in Cataract and Clear Lens in an Indian Population
2007, American Journal of OphthalmologyCitation Excerpt :They suggested that the increase in axial length leads to a corresponding increase in the endothelial surface area with spreading of the endothelial cells, thereby leading to a reduction in ECD. Few authors4,17 found a significant positive correlation between axial length and ECD, similar to our observations. However, this relationship between cell count and axial length requires further investigation and explanation.
