Diagonal ear lobe crease and atherosclerosis: A review of the medical literature and oral and maxillofacial implications
2010, Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial SurgeryCitation Excerpt :Last, when discussing the possible association between a risk indicator (DELC) and a disease entity (ACA), there is the potential for unrecognized or unappreciated cofactors to actually account for the situation. Specifically, a minority of researchers have demonstrated that DELC is not independently related to ACA but rather is only indirectly correlated to it because of its association with certain atherogenic risk factors (hypertension,46-48 smoking,45 obesity,49 and diabetes mellitus49,50). This small group of researchers believe that this is the cause of the false impression of a direct causal relationship between DELC and ACA.51
