Increased mitotic rates of fibroid cells during the secretory phase of the menstrual cycle, parallel to the increased progesterone secretion was previously observed [30]. The exaggerated sensitivity to estrogen and progesterone in the presence of uterine fibroids creates an endocrine abnormal intra-uterine environment during pregnancy.
