Zusammenfassung

„Cyclic alternating pattern“ (CAP) stellen eine periodische Aktivität des „Non-rapid-eye-movement“(NREM)-Schlafs im Elektroenzephalogramm (EEG) dar. Sie sind durch Sequenzen transienter elektrokortikaler Ereignisse gekennzeichnet, unterscheiden sich von der EEG-Hintergrundaktivität durch Frequenz- und/oder Amplitudenänderung und treten in regelmäßigen Intervallen auf. In mehreren Studien konnte bestätigt werden, dass CAP sowohl bei Schlafgesunden als auch im Rahmen von Schlafstörungen vorkommen können. Als Indikator für die Instabilität des Schlafprozesses ermöglicht die CAP-Analyse einen objektiven Zugang, um die Schlafqualität zu bewerten.

Abstract

Cyclic alternating pattern (CAP) is defined as periodic electroencephalogram (EEG) activity during non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep. This microstructural pattern of sleep is characterized by sequences of transient electrocortical events lasting up to 1 min, which occur at regular intervals and can be differentiated from background EEG activity by frequency and/or amplitude alterations. Several studies have confirmed that CAP occurs not only spontaneously in NREM sleep of healthy subjects but can also be found in connection with sleep disorders. In summary CAP reflects unstable sleep, which can be seen as a marker of instability of the sleep process and represents a further indicator of sleep quality.
