Zusammenfassung
Hintergrund
Abstract
Objective
Nutrition is important for every cancer patient receiving radiotherapy. Nevertheless, we still do not have a standardized nutritional concept for these patients.
Materials and methods
Based on a focused literature search, a concise review of the relevant publications is provided.
Results
Interactions between radiotherapy and nutrition can be summarized into four key points: (1) Normal nutrition is disturbed by locoregional toxicities of radiotherapy. (2) High energy nutrition is necessary to obtain an optimal outcome for cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy. (3) Legal drugs (alcohol and coffeine) have specific impact on patients’ health and should be discussed with each patient. (4) Disturbed nutrition has an impact on social and psychological and probably the spiritual situation of the patient.
Conclusions
Communication and support regarding nutrition during radiotherapy are essential for successful implementation of complex, multimodal oncological concepts.
