Zusammenfassung

Der Verlauf der posttraumatischen Belastungsstörung kann chronisch oder wechselnd sein. Häufig versagen Praktiker, die Störung bei Älteren zu diagnostizieren und zu behandeln (Lyons & McClendon, 1990; Nichols & Czirr, 1986). In diesem Kapitel konzentriere ich mich auf die Identifikation und Behandlung älterer Patienten mit chronischer PTB, die von traumatischen Ereignissen in der Kindheit, Jugend oder dem Erwachsenenalter herrührt. Die Ausdrücke Ältere, ältere Menschen und höheres Lebensalter beziehen sich auf Personen, die älter als 60 Jahre sind.
